Kauai
As the fourth largest Hawaiian island in terms of both geographic size and population, Kauai is a little more off-the-beaten-path than some of the more popular islands like Oahu and Maui, but its attractions - both natural and man-made - are no less appealing. The peak of the island's inactive volcano, Kawaikini, rises over 5,200 feet above sea level, and its verdant jungle overgrowth dominates the island's idyllic scenery. Waimea Canyon State Park, known as "the Grand Canyon of the Pacific," is located on the western side of the island, and has proven to be a timeless draw for tourists due to both its natural beauty and its unique geological features. While the resort town of Kapa'a is the most popular place for tourists to stay on Kauai, there are numerous hamlets throughout the island which offer more rural accommodations. Maui
After Oahu, Maui is the most popular vacation destination in Hawaii, due in large part to its well-developed tourism infrastructure, its spectacular beaches, and its vibrant culture. The luxury resorts on Maui are some of the nicest in the world, and most of them feature decadent amenities like massage parlors, spas, swimming pools, and chartered boat rides. Since the 1990s, Maui has seen a huge surge in its population as older people from the American mainland began moving there to enjoy their retirement in the tropical climate. This increase in population inspired concurrent increases in development, so that now, there are many more vacation rentals and travel services available on the island. Here are the best of the best:
