It seems like everyone wants to own a condo in Oahu, and if there is
one place in Oahu that might be the most desireable, it
would be the Gold Coast. Now unless you live here, you probably
haven't heard of the Gold Coast, but if you've visited Waikiki then you
probably have seen the Gold Coast. Just East of Waikiki (which
means walking toward Diamond Head) after you pass the aquarium, there
is a little strip of condos right on the beach. With incredible
views like the one pictured here, just about every condo on the Gold
Coast has a wide open ocean view. Some face the mountain or have
a side view of the coast instead of a direct ocean view, but there is
hardly a bad spot on the Gold Coast.
The Condos on the Gold Coast of
Diamond Head
Built in the 1950's and 60's, all the several tall buildings on the
Gold Coast have some funny names. Tahitienne, Colony Surf, Tropic
Seas, 2987 Kalakaua, 3003 Kalakaua, Diamond Head Ambassador, Diamond
head beach hotel, Kainalu, San Souci inc, 3019 Kalakaua Ave Apt, Coral
Strand Ltd., Oceanside Manor. Some of the names are just an
address, another sounds an like apartment building, and another has
"hotel" right in the name. You have to be aware that a lot of the
units on the Gold Coast are leasehold, meaning you don't own the land,
and when the lease is over, there is a good chance (like 99%) that you
are going to lose your condo. The Fee Simple condos on the beach
can go for $4million for a nice 3bedroom condo. You can get a
small "starter" condo on the Gold Coast for just under $1million Fee
Simple.
The buildings are old, which is something you have to deal with on the
Gold Coast no matter what. Many of the condos themselves have been
renovated inside, so once you're in the unit it might feel pretty
new. The buildings however, being 50 years old, are not the best
and most modern as you can imagine. But it's the old Hawaii charm
that locals love about the Gold Coast. If you want new, you
probably should look in Waikiki, at the Koolani, Hokua, or Keola
Lai. The older condos on the Gold Coast of Diamond Head offer
something totally different. Maybe you call it charm, or
character, or something else, but once you've spent some time here
you'll see why people love it.
What Makes The Gold Coast of Diamond Head so Great?
You can walk to the Outrigger Canoe
club, an upscale social and paddling club where the well to do in East
Oahu meet for drinks while watching a beautiful sunset. You can
relax or play in Kapiolani Park, a beautiful park with massive mature
trees that look like something out of a story book. Of couse the
Gold Coast is just a few minutes walk to Waikiki, so you have every
restaurant and store in the world at your disposal. It's funny
howWaikiki is only a half mile away, but it might as well be a
different city, because you'll rarely see tourists on the beaches of
the Gold Coast. The Honolulu Zoo and The Waikiki Aquarium are
right next to the Gold Coast, and you can take a short bike ride up to
the Diamond Head Market for a sandwhich. It's just a wonderful
place to live, the ultimate little beach town, even though it's not an
entire town.
