Location
Kailua is located on the windward side of Oahu about 20 minutes (12
miles) from downtown Honolulu. Since you have to drive all the way over
the Pali to get there, driving over nu'uanu pali, the tallest peak in
the Ko'olau mountain range. Kailua is it's own city with it's own
infrastructure. Kailua town offers lots of ammenities and services,
with grocery stores, movie theaters, banks, shopping centers, a bowling
alley, and lots of small shops. Kailua is is a beautiful little town
located south of Kaneohe and North of Waimanalo. Even though Kailua is

Kailua Town land area: 35.5 square miles
Kailua is one of the most greatest places in the world, with amazing
views, beautiful beaches, and a wonderful little town. The beautiful
Mokulua Islands are just a short kayak paddle from the beach, a must do
for all visitors. From just about everywhere in Kailua, you can see the
Koolau mountain range, an majestic range of jagged green hills that has
been featured in many movies and Tv shows, including LOST.
People who like small quaint towns with shopping and simple dining love
Kailua for it's layout. A great facelift was done on Kailua town just a
few years ago that has really brought the town new life. There are many
small stores to look around in, and the great outdoor restraunts are a
fun way to spend the afternoon.
In Kailua, Christmas and Fourth of July parades are a highlight every
year. Don't miss the Kailua Thursday night farmers' market in the
Kailua parking garage (behind Longs) on thursdays, 5 to 7:30 p.m.
Restaurants
Kailua offers a whole variety of restaurants with Japanese, Thai,
Mexican, Italian, Pacific rim, Hawaiian, Chinese, and much more. My
favorites are Cinnamon's for breakfast and Maui Tacos for dinner. Also,
Mexico Lindo is a great Mexican place in Kailua, right in the middle of
Kailua town.
Buzz's original steakhouse, 413 kawailoa rd, ph: (808) 261-4661.
Nice setting located across the street from kailua beach park
Zia's caffè Italian, (on hamakua dr. Next to
boardrider's). Simple Italian with average prices.
Baci Bistro, (on aulike st), [3]. Italian romantic restaurant.
Times coffee shop, (on hamakua dr.). A small cafe that serves the
best "fried rice" in the world.
Pinky's Pupu bar & grill, (on kalaheo ave).
The Shack, (off of keolu drive). Excellent burgers, a little loud
and rowdy on weekends.
Boot's and Kimo's homestyle kitchen. The best pancakes in kailua
with great macadamia nut syrup. Located on hekili st.
Mexico Lindo. Excellent Mexican food, right in the middle of town.
Beaches
Kailua beach has been repeatedly ranked among the best beaches
worldwide. It was ranked as #1 u.s. beach in 1998.
You can snorkel, scuba dive, kayak, sail, spearfish, surf, and windsurf
all in Kailua. Also there are a few golf courses right in Kailua:
Olomana, Luana Hills, and Pali golf course. Kailua beach the amazing
white sand beach in America. Kailua has world-class wind surfing, with
great winds and calm waters. On the south end of Kailua is gorgeous
Lanikai, home to many of the world's rich and famous.
With tradewinds blowing 90 percent of the year, Kailua stays nice and
cool with frequent rains. Dont worry if you get rained on in Kailua,
it's probably going to let up in a few minutes.
Beaches on Oahu are posted with special signs when there are portuguese
man-of-war in the surrounding ocean. Avoid these things, which are
little bright blue floating sea creatures. They can be a very painful
and sometimes lead to serious injury. If you are stung, call the
lifeguards, or for serious cases call 911 for medical evacuation.
In 1998 Kailua Beach Park was named "America's best beach" by Stephen
leatherman. The famous Hawaiian voyaging canoe, Hokulea, arrives off
Kailua beach. This amazing vessle navigates only by the stars, and has
made it all the way from Tahiti without any modern instrumentation.

Getting
to Kailua
Take the H-1 to Pali hwy, then take the Pali north up the mountains
about into kailua town. After Kamehameha Hwy the name of the road
changes to Kalanianiole hwy., and then it changes again after Castle
hospital to Kailua rd, so keep your eyes open. But don't worry you are
mostly going straight anyway.
Ancient Hawaiians only had two options: hiking over the Koolau
mountains or sailing around Makapuu point along the island's eastern
tip. Search Kailua Properties Now
