Portlock / Triangle / Koko Kai
As you
drive through Hawaii Kai on your way to Hanauma Bay, on your right
you'll see a beautiful neighborhood called Portlock, with oceanfront
estates down on the beach and oceanview homes on the hills above.
This neighborhood is popular among mainland transplants and long time
Hawaii residents as well, with quite a variety of high end homes to
choose from. It is definitely the most esteemed neighborhood in
Hawaii Kai.
Portlock
is actually a combination of three neighborhoods that really look and
feel pretty similar at times, but are different in many ways.
Though most people in any of these neighborhoods will just call it
"Portlock," the reality is that Triangle and Koko Kai were developed as
separate areas.
Located
just 15 minutes from downtown Honolulu, this beautiful area is the home
to many executives and professionals. Though most of the beaches
are rocky, there are a few small sandy areas for those who know how to
find them. And the view from upper Triangle are hard to
beat.

Portlock / Koko Kai / Triangle Real estate
Homes in
Triangle are usually pretty standard with 3-4 bedrooms, about 2500sqft,
and up to about 3500sqft, and feel like your average home on the
mainland, though built in about 1970. Many have been nicely
remodeled, and those that haven't present a good opportunity to buy
them and make a profit in the process.
In Koko
Kai, you get more grandeur, more impressive estate homes with very
dramatic views. The homes in Koko Kai are often fully gated, and
some have tennis courts and massive pools. The homes at the end
of Poipu dr have some of the most amazing views of the ocean and
Diamond head that you will ever see, with wales jumping in the distance
about 1/4 of the year.
Portlock
is its own special place, and unless you have seen it in person, it
might be hard to understand. The homes start at around $2million
for a fixer, and go up to $15million for a mini mansion of several
thousand feet. The water in this area is calm with no waves near
the shore, so you get a very quite peaceful ocean view everyday.
