Hawaii Kai Homes & Condos

Hawaii Kai is the only community in Hawaii where you can buy a home with a boat dock on a marina. You would think that there would be dozens of communities like this, but it's actually the only one on Oahu. That's one of the things that makes Hawaii Kai real estate so valuable. With median home prices higher than just about anywhere else in the state, Hawaii Kai is a very upscale community.

Hundreds of Hawaii Kai homes have a marina lot, which means this is truly a boat owner's paradise. The marina provides a great view from just about any restaurant in town. Even the Costco in town has an ocean view! Some great restaurants on the water include the Blue Water Grill and Kona Brewing Company. You can even sit and watch the boats go by at Panda Express!  The annual Hawaii Kai Boat Parade is a great benefit of living here. 

If you're looking for a waterfront home in Hawaii Kai, Spinnaker Isle, Anchorage, the Peninsula, Koko Isle, Kuapa Isle, and the West Marina area are great places to live with a dock. Marina front homes in Hawaii Kai range from about $600k for a townhome to about $5 million for a large house. Buyers will also find oceanfront and beachfront houses in Hawaii Kai.

In addition to having wonderful waterfront properties, Hawaii Kai also has a number of hillside homes that feature wonderful views of the ocean and marina. Mariner's Ridge, Na Pali Haweo, Kamehame Ridge, Hahaione Valley, and Kamiloiki are some areas in Hawaii Kai where you can have sweeping views of the ocean. Note, that you usually pay about $100k extra for a grand view of the ocean.

There are also some great properties just up the street from Sandy Beach. Buyers will find golf course homes in Queens Gate or Laulima—both of which are nice neighborhoods that have beautiful luxury homes. Many of the houses in Queens Gate or Laulima offer both golf course and ocean views, so what could be better? You can also drive a little farther inland to find Kalama Valley, which is a quiet neighborhood with about a thousand homes.

Homes in the Hawaii Kai real estate market cost about $850,000 on average. Even Hawaii Kai condos are expensive, at about $400,000 to start. However, life in this quiet town is well worth the expense if you ask me. The people here enjoy outdoor living like nowhere else. Any morning you get up, you're going to see people with kayaks and surfboards on their way to the beach.

Hawaii Kai Schools

Hawaii Kai has some of the best schools in the state, with Koko Head Elementary and Kamiloiki consistently scoring at the top of Hawaii's school rankings. A little bit toward Honolulu, Kahala Elementary is another one of the best schools in Hawaii. With some of the highest parent involvement in the region, Hawaii Kai's schools have great support from the community.

Amenities & Recreation in Hawaii Kai

We have three main shopping centers in Hawaii Kai: The Hawaii Kai Towne Center, The Koko Marina Center, and the Safeway Center. We also have Costco, City Mill, The Shack, Longs, Ross, Panda Express, Starbucks, Common Groundz, Jamba Juice, Blue Water Grill, Kona Brewing Company, and dozens of other great merchants. One of my favorite places is Common Grounds, where you can sit at the marina and have great coffee.

Hawaii Kai also has some wonderful hiking spots, including Makapuu Point and the lighthouse. In fact, some of Oahu's most beautiful landscapes are here in Hawaii Kai. Water-loving residents can water ski inside the Hawaii Kai Marina, which has two areas that are designated for towing things behind a boat. With several commercial boat rentals available, you can jump on a ski boat or dive boat just about any day.

Hawaii Kai has a few famous spots that are enjoyed by tourists and locals alike. Hanauma Bay is the most famous snorkeling spot on the south side of Oahu, and hosts more snorkelers than any other beach in Hawaii. Since the bay is a nature preserve and prevents fishing, there are gorgeous fish everywhere.

Hawaii Kai also has Sandy Beach with the Halona Blowhole, which is a world-class body surfing beach sometimes called "Break Necks." Each year several people are injured while body surfing at Sandy Beach because of the powerful waves. Don't be fooled by the size of the surf—the waves here can be intense.

Hawaii Kai is the only place in Oahu where you can jet ski and water ski in protected water. Maunalua Bay is a huge protected place to enjoy all kinds of water sports.
