The Peninsula: Condos & Townhomes in Hawaii Kai

The Peninsula condos and town homes were built in 2004 and 2005, and are the newest addition to the marina front real estate market in Hawaii Kai.

One of Oahu's few gated communities, Peninsula at Hawaii Kai has 2 pools, a kiddie pool, an exercise room, plus private and community boat docs. Homes on the water range from about $800k for a 1000 sqft town home, up to about $1.7 million for a single family home of around 2400 sqft.

I wouldn't say they're super luxurious, but they're newer, contemporary style, and tend to be very well-kept. Only a couple of The Peninsula town homes have docks in front, but many of the larger single family homes have their own  private dock off the back yard.

However if you see a condo in "The Colony" at the Peninsula listed, and it's listed as marina front, it's not. None of the Colony units are on the marina but some have a nice marina view.  This is the Colony, a 4 story condo building, which actually is 6 separate buildings.

Yes, the Colony at the Peninsula is 6 separate buildings, 4 floors each, with 1 bedroom units of around 1000 sqft up to 3 bedroom units with about 1500 sqft each. One of the things that you might not like about the Colony is that a lot of the parking is tandem, meaning you have to move a car to get the other one out. Only a few Colony condos have side by side parking, and those are definitely a premium product.  The best building is probably #6, because it's farthest from the noisy road.  The noisiest one might be building 8, because it's on the corner of Lunalilo Home Road and Wailua St.

The single family homes are ideal for boat owners, and they are some of the best properties in Hawaii Kai if you want to live on the marina. There hadn't been anything built on the water for many years until The Peninsula came along, so if you like newer construction, this is your best option.
